< dragon-tempered, irascible, and one clever witch >

a character spotlight
[Name:] Margo McByrne
[Age:] 26
[Profession:] Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau
[Character Personality:] Margo is as fiery as her hair. She has a flaring temper and a searing wit, but she’s generally a nice person. Also determined, she will do anything that she wants to do and won’t let others get in the way. Her sense of adventure often makes her the most worried about of all her siblings, but she doesn’t mind, her work is important to her, probably more so than a lot of things, and can’t go without it. Her habits are strongly rooted in how she was raised, and that was in a severely proud Irish household. Her pride can’t be broken easily, but when it is, she breaks hard.
Her love for animals is unmistakable and she often puts priority in them before people, arguing that they don’t have voices to use to talk, they can’t stand up for themselves without using their teeth, and someone needs to defend them. She’s a passionate and independent woman who handles herself as best she can in any given situation, and will do anything she needs to upon reaching her goals.
[History:] Irish blood runs strong through Margo’s veins and being the middle sister and a family of three, she has a tough time being recognized, but she manages. Her older sister is the overachiever of the group while her youngest sister is the trouble maker, and Margo found her place as the adventurer. From a very young age, she had always wanted to be exploring something or climbing over things just for fun.
It turned out she would give her parents heart attacks for a long time, but, that didn’t really faze her that much. Margo was always determined to do what she wanted, and even more so when her older sister was sent to Hogwarts for her first year. She had tried to follow her into the platform, but was stopped, much to her dismay. Her parents had a hard time quelling her sobs at why she couldn’t go with her, but promised that three years later she would be able to attend herself.
And when Margo finally did start going to Hogwarts, she instantaneously fell in love with the school, and more particularly the school grounds. On any given day she could be found outside, and although she had flaming red hair, she never had too many freckles, supposing she was just lucky about that. Her favorite pastime was hanging around the creatures from the Care of Magical creatures’ class, and as soon as she took the class she was determined to work with the most fascinating creatures of all, dragons.
She was obsessed, took out every book in the library on them, learned everything she could and poured over her studies, making sure that she would be accepted. And from her first step out onto the field, she was hooked. It was like a drug with her, being near the dangerous and majestic creatures. Her training seemed to take forever, but when she was finally ready to work full-time with the creatures she moved right from Ireland to Romania, never forgetting her culture – in fact, bringing much of it to the mountains with her.
In the midst of raising a Norwegian ridgeback male, she was involved in a climbing accident, and much to her dismay sent from Romania back to the Isles. Her wrist was smashed in three places and she was in no condition to work the field for several months, and now, only two weeks back from the trip, she’s not a happy camper. Having a desk job was never her idea of fun, and she’s counting down the days to go back to Romania, a friend, Vladimir Kunakyev, is raising Lennon, her dragon, for her while she’s gone, and she frequently gets letters and pictures to ensure she’s satisfied with what he’s doing and doesn’t go back and beat him for “abusing” her tot.
She intends to go back to the mountains ASAP because well, as Charlie has told her the newbies are driving him crazy and she wants to be around. She has developed a terrible crush on the second oldest Weasley brother but won’t admit it, seeing as though she wouldn’t want to ruin their friendship. She’s flirty with everyone so it isn’t too much of a big deal, but she likes flirting with him the most ( Wink ). She’s also good friends with Bill, even if they aren’t the closest, they have hung out on several occassions and reminisce about when work used to be fun =P
[Years of Ministry Employment:] 5
[Special Talents/Info:] She’s extremely dedicated and very knowledgeable on dragons. She managed to work her way up very quickly and was even give the chance to raise a dragon that had been orphaned. She is extremely good with animals, often better than with people. She is also an animagus, a skill she adapted in Romania for working with dragons in their natural environment. So, if you ever see an otter running around with random orange hairs, it’s Margo.
[What do you foresee being the main duties of your job?]: Being able to be on call at any time. There has to be flexibility for travel and moving around as well as duties and functions. There must be an ability to shift from one job to the next and be able to perform it just as well as the one you specialized in. Alertness and common sense are also needed, in order to work anywhere near a dragon one needs to have a good head on their shoulder and excellent, snappy decision making skills. There is also a significant amount of paperwork and it must be completed perfectly, lest anything goes wrong and senseless things occur. Raising orphaned dragons is very important and being able to research their habits and mannerisms with deductive and reasoning skills are also a plus. A connection with nature is important and will be necessary in the field as well.

Margo stared at her wrist lying limply on the paneled desk. A heavy sigh escaping her lips, it had caused her to have to come back here. And on top of that, it still hurt. There was a constant dull ache through her wrist and up her arm. She had to go climbing that day! It wasn’t even job related. Pressing her lips together, her green eyes looked up as she saw something out of the corner of her eye.
The little piece of off-white parchment was flying into her desk at what seemed to be a haphazard speed, and it fell on her desk, unraveling in front of her. ‘Damn memos…’ she thought bitterly, reaching with her left hand to retrieve the message. Thankfully it was only her right wrist that had been damaged, since she seldom used it except for her REAL work. Flattening out the creases, she lifted the note to her face, to read what was written in insanely small print, that she could barely distinguish.
‘Ms. McByrne,’ she hated the formalness of this bureaucracy…
There seems to be a problem in contacting the DRAGON team in the mountains, DRAGON was an acronym for something which she couldn’t remember, but it wasn’t important. The team had changed it anyhow, something along the lines of ‘Drunken Ragtag Adolescent-wannabes Going On Nine,’ of course, that’s not what the ministry had in mind, she was sure. You are needed to establish a communications link between the two posts, Romania and Norway and then link both back to the department. It should not be a long task She doubted that was the truth, as long as you attend to it with seriousness. extremely doubtable.
She sighed and tossed down the paper into the trash can, standing from the confines of the lonely desk, she knew there was work to do, even if it wasn’t what she wanted, she took what she could get, and in the back of her mind, 150 days… rang clear.

What do you enjoy most about RPing?
The fact that you get to zone in on your writing skills with other people. It’s much easier to develop a style and a character when you have 300+ other people on the site looking to do the same thing. And let’s face it, I have way too much fun torturing most of my characters anyway *wink wink*
What do you most enjoy writing - are their certain elements or styles you
gravitate towards?
I enjoy writing in a comedic style. It’s hard for me to not to interject some sarcasm or crude remark in the middle of the post, but then again, it goes mostly by the character I’m writing. I know I use way too many commas, but that’s just a part of my style. Long live the COMMA!
Do you have any plots you would like people to know about or get involved in with you?
The League of Extraordinary Redheads! We need more redhead participation! We know there are more of you out there, come now! We have to stage a hostil take over and you’re just sitting about lazily. Up and at ‘em redheads! Grin
What other characters do you write?
Aside from the loose canon Margo McByrne, I write for Akiva Katz, Rezi Polyxena, Bella Rhys, and Sarah Chassereau. I <3 my characters.
Anything you would like to pass along to others at the site? Words of Wisdom or wit? Advice?
Always post sufficient lengths, make sure you answer the questions asked above and for God’s sake, post regularly! Wink We are all guilty of not doing that last part… *shifty eyes* except me… of course.
If you could describe your writing style in two words, what would they be?
Comma Happy.
